you don't need "-screenshot" to take screenshots. i go in the game and just do "Ctrl+PrntSc" if i want a screenshot
That just but a dib into your clipboard. If you use the -screenshot command line argument then the game writes a *.tga file directly to your hard drive in the \screenshots folder when you press the [prntscrn] key.

You don't need the -Screenshot. I don't know where the myth came from, but Devmode works perfectly without -screenshot.
Only if you want screenshots. If you don't want screenshots you don't need it. The command line I gave enables the most common items people will use. You can use any of the command line commands by themself or in combination depending on what you are trying to accomplish

Halo CE Technical / Map Design » Question to Dennis Today @ 01:44 PM (Total replies: 1)

Well in the first place sorry for this weird topic but since Dennis doesn't ever read his PM's (that's what he told me)
No, I read all of them I just read them last.

Now I love this forum it's the best I've ever seen and I was wondering where it came from. Is this a phpBB forum whit a modifyed .css
No it is not a phpbb forum. It was developed in Cold Fusion and has been heavily modified because the original forum code had numerous security holes. It’s design was modeled after a phpbb forum but lacks numerous functions and is less efficient in it’s use of the database. We originally were testing it for use with our commercial customers but found it lacking and have left it operational because switching to another forum would lose all the existing data. There are much better forum packages available. We are a Cold Fusion development house which is why we do not use any PHP products.

putting the "-console -devmode" thing in the target is a load of crap! it doesn't work and it gives you an exception! i just downloaded bitterbananna's alldev and it worked perfectly.
Then you are doing it wrong.

(include the quotes ")

For 32 bit systems
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\haloce.exe" -console -screenshot -devmode

for 64bit systems
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\haloce.exe" -console -screenshot -devmode

Port 21 is blocked on your computer for FTP transfers. We deliver all files via FTP (File Transport Protocol) which is different than via HTTP (Web pages). All Web browsers support the FTP protocol however it operates on a different port than HTTP. HTTP uses port 80, FTP uses port 21. You must tell your Firewall or Internet Security program to allow transfers on port 21. In 99% of the cases it is your firewall or Internet security program blocking the file transfer on port 21.

This is your problem. Your firewall or internet security program is blocking port 21 for ftp transfers.

What? You want to have nightmares?

You are an idiot. In your attempt to be funny you you haven't even gotten the correct picture of the correct person.

You have to know how your supposed feud with me will turn out.

In lcePhoenix's case his original account was created more than 14 days ago and after his posts were removed he had zero posts so his account was automatically removed in the nightly maintenance. He was not banned.
Edited by Dennis on Sep 8, 2010 at 08:13 PM

Please clarify? Why were the posts removed in the first place? I thought you didn't have a method of deleting spam only? Or did you just delete all his posts and the "janitor" deleted the account?
No, I have a 100% fool proof method of deleting spam - delete all posts by the spammer. The rest of your quandary is self evident.

lol. someone stole the name "powerhouse v2". it'll have to be v3 due to dennis' rules of no repeated names.
Are you complaining or thanking? How about a thought experiment: Would you prefer multiple maps with the same name? How about all the mods? what if they were all called bloodgulch? How would you know which one was running on a server? Or what if someone made a bloodgulch mod and called it hugeass or coldsnap or powerhouse? How would you know which map was running on the server?

lcePhoenix wanted this public, or he could have sent a PM, which is why I left it open for comment but I see that is difficult for people. lcePhoenix was not banned.

So here is how I handle obvious spam like the visitor that put on the show of infantile nonsense a couple of days ago.First off I never acknowledge nor respond to spam. The person doing it has already shown their disregard for others and I won't empower or acknowledge people exhibiting that behavior I just remove it.

Removing it is easy; one click and it is all gone. Everything that user posts is instantly removed from the forum. All posts and all threads he started are gone. Poof. I then lock that account so he can't login again. Thirty days later that account is automatically deleted - removed from the database by the forum.

Then I look at the remaining or existing threads and if I see if there are threads that are obviously about the spammer and also see if the person who started the thread has also responded to the spammer in other threads. If so then that person's posts, all posts and threads he started, are also removed and since there is no way I can programmatically determine his spam posts from his normal ones all posts get removed.

People subscribe to the forum and create accounts all the time but either misspell or enter an invalid email address so they can never login. Some create accounts but never post. Those accounts are considered orphans and the forum looks for accounts that have zero (0) posts within 14 days from the date it was created and on day 15 automatically deletes those orphaned accounts. In lcePhoenix's case his original account was created more than 14 days ago and after his posts were removed he had zero posts so his account was automatically removed in the nightly maintenance. He was not banned.

I just don't get it. You want the right to respond to a spammer thereby creating more spam but don't want to suffer the consequences of doing the same thing the spammer is doing: creating spam. You can't have it both ways. To use a very old cliché: You are either part of the solution or part of the problem.

Why have I been banned? You should realise I have no connection with that idiot right? Am I being banned just for one thread telling people to not feed the troll?

If you're going to delete me again, at least tell me why.
Edited by lcePhoenix on Sep 8, 2010 at 07:33 AM
When someone posts or starts threads in response to spam they become a spammer and all spam is deleted. Spam is deleted by deleting ALL the posts of a spammer. User Accounts with zero posts that are older than 10 days are considered inactive and are automatically removed from the user database during nightly maintenance to free up user names. That is why you were able to recreate your account with your old username. If you had been banned your user account name would still be locked and unavailable for 30 days. There is a zero tolerance for spammers.

Halo CE Technical / Map Design » Debug.txt won't update? Sep 7, 2010 07:00 PM (Total replies: 9)

Quote: --- Original message by: Halocombatevolved
I did the uac thing and the folders that had a lock on them were completely gone, so I set it back. Is there a way to get the debug.txt to update in windows 7 without doing all of the security stuff?
You need to change the permissions on the \Halo Custom Edition\ folders. The default user permissions for a standard user is read/execute only in all the \Program Files & Program Files(x86) folders. You do not want to open them all which disabling the UAC will do. You just need to change the specific folders \Halo Custom Edition and the child folders to give JUST your user account rights to it.

Removing security measures (disabling the UAC) when you don't understand them is never advisable.

I am not sure if asking this last question is violating the forum rules.
Asking reasonable questions is not only NOT against the rules it is why the forum is here in the first place.

So Dennis....from what you are saying, there is no way to improve the multiplayer game play? Even using open sauce?
No I am not saying that. I am saying that any enhancement or third party program has it's limitations. Even in the case of open sauce there is only so much you can do when manipulating memory locations. and anything that would make a major change in game-play would require that all people would have to run the same third party utility. So far they have not yet been created.
Quote: --- Original message by: videoman
is there a way to extract the game source code?
Even if there was the copyright laws prohibit it as does the End User License Agreement (EULA) and Microsoft would most likely stop any and all violations of that type.

You don't own commercial software. You license it. Essentially you just rent it for a one time fee. Just because you have it in your possession does not mean you can do anything you want with it such as decompile it and change it. You have to look at the EULA and the copyright laws to determine what you are allowed to do with it.

there was posts by a troll in between, when he got banned, and his account removed his posts were too, thus giving the illusion of multi-posts
Which is why it is important to think before you post and follow the posting guidelines

Ignore spammers, do not respond to them do not post in response to their offense your responses are worse than the spam itself because their account and all their messages can be deleted with a single click. Your responses can't unless I delete all your messages. Your response to spam is worse than the spam itself.

If your response looks like a spam post then you run the risk of having ALL your posts deleted with a single click since I do not take the time to differentiate between ignorance and malice: Spam is spam and it will be deleted.
